Washington DC Yearbooks · privacy and permission
Selling a photo of a child is a permission question first
Washington DC Yearbooks runs local yearbook sales for Washington DC schools. This page states the consent model that governs every one of them.
Face matching is not wired in the shipping configuration: it holds no face-recognition model weights, and no face template is computed from a photo. Photo finding uses a permission-checked roster lookup instead. A parent finds their own child by a permission-checked roster lookup, never a face match. A photo of a student can be offered for sale only where every person in it has opted in — one family opting out ends that sale, rather than quietly cropping their child out of it. That holds for every Washington DC school on this program.
This page is a public page, so it carries no roster, no student name, and no child’s photo — and it never will. A lookup on our public surfaces resolves a Washington DC school, never a student inside it.
Face matching is not wired in the shipping configuration: it holds no face-recognition model weights, and no face template is computed from a photo. Photo finding uses a permission-checked roster lookup instead. Parents find their own child by a roster lookup — never a face scan — and a photo is available for sale only when permission says so.
